Spam Blacklist (DNSBL) Check

Enter an IP address to check it against 6 spam blacklists (DNSBLs) that mail servers use to decide whether to accept mail. The result for each list is shown with a link to its removal information.

The IP address is sent to the DNS servers of each list only when you press Check. Results for the same IP address are kept on the server for 10 minutes.

Spam blacklist check

What this tool does

A spam blacklist (DNSBL) is a list of IP addresses that have been observed sending spam. Many mail servers look up the sender of incoming mail in these lists over DNS and decide whether to reject the mail or file it as spam.

If the IP address of your connection or mail server is listed, the mail you send may not reach the recipient. Use this tool to look into delivery problems or to check whether a newly rented server's IP address has been listed before.

How to read the results

  • Listed means the list currently includes this IP address. For lists that publish the meaning of their responses (127.0.0.x), the list's category is also shown.
  • Not listed means the address was not on that list at the time of the check.
  • Could not check means the list's DNS server did not answer in time, so whether the address is listed is unknown.
  • Each list has its own listing criteria and listing period, so an address may appear on only one list.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the IP address of my home connection listed?

Home connection IP addresses change hands, so records may remain from a previous user or from a device on the same connection that sent spam. Most lists remove an entry automatically after a period with no further sending.

How do I get removed from a list?

Follow the removal link in the results table to check the reason for the listing and the removal steps on each list's official site. The steps differ by list: some take a request after the cause has been stopped, and some remove entries automatically after a set period.

Is traffic from a listed IP address dangerous?

This tool only shows the fact of which lists include the address. Most lists are made for decisions about accepting mail, not for judging whether browsing a website is safe.
